Meet Nina
I have loved Pilates ever since I was introduced to it nearly 30 years ago as part of my recovery from a whiplash injury that was very slow to heal. I quickly realised that Pilates was much more than just structured exercise. It not only provided an excellent complement to physiotherapy but also improved my posture, health and emotional well-being.
It has also enabled me to effectively manage a congenital hip condition that puts me at greater risk of requiring surgery as I get older. I also have hypermobility, which means that my joints are too flexible, and Pilates helps my joint stability and strength.

Pilates is for Everyone
Pilates is for everyone, regardless of ability, fitness level, or coordination. I specialise in helping each individual benefit from movement, breath, alignment, and relaxation in a way that suits them. My teaching is shaped by 13 years of clinical experience in the NHS as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.
I’ve supported clients of all ages and abilities, including those with learning difficulties, visual impairments, and stroke recovery, using tailored approaches such as seated exercises and tactile cueing. I’ve also trained in programmes for conditions like Parkinson’s, and work with clients across rehabilitation, pregnancy, and sports performance to enhance everyday life.

An overview of Pilates
Pilates is a low-impact, mind-body exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, focusing on strengthening the core and improving posture, flexibility, and body awareness.
It uses controlled, precise movements to enhance muscle tone, balance, and stability. Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and is effective for rehabilitation, reducing back pain, and total body conditioning.
Pilates does focus on relaxation and a calm mind, but this comes more from breathwork, concentration and economy of movement, reducing tension in parts of the body that are not required for that exercise and controlling unwanted compensatory patterns.
How Pilates differs from yoga
While both practices improve flexibility and focus on the breath, they have different goals. Yoga often involves holding static poses to improve balance and find a spiritual connection.
Pilates is a clinical system focused on dynamic balance, active stretching and strengthening through engaging opposing muscle groups and controlled movement with coordination, breathing, precision and alignment.
